1. In the evening, cleanse your skin and dry thoroughly.
2. Apply a small amount to the face and neck before your night cream. Avoid the eye contour area.
3. Follow with your usual evening moisturiser.
4. Every morning, apply a broad-spectrum SPF 50+ sunscreen. Retinol makes skin more sensitive to UV.
Tips:
- Build up gradually: start with 1 to 2 evenings a week for the first fortnight, then slowly increase towards nightly use as tolerated.
- If you experience tightness, dryness or flaking, try the sandwich method: moisturiser first, then the retinol, then another layer of moisturiser (Hyal Ceutic or Regen Ceutic work well).
- Do not combine with AHA exfoliating products (Foamer, TurnOver, Light Ceutic) or high-strength vitamin C in the same evening. Alternate nights instead.
- Patch test before first use.
- Ease off during periods of high sun exposure, such as beach holidays.
- Do not use if you are pregnant, planning pregnancy or breastfeeding. Retinol (vitamin A) products are not recommended during this time; speak with your GP about alternatives.
- Once your skin is fully comfortable with 0.5, you can consider stepping up to Activ Retinol 1.0.
